Villages medical provider to start offering drive-thru tests for coronavirus

Premier Medical Associates in The Villages plans to open its driving department for coronavirus testing on Monday.

The medical provider has announced a mobile test plan where patients will stay in their cars while having their throat and nose swabs swabbed, much like a test for the flu or strep throat. This will help protect patients and staff inside the office and perform testing quickly as the virus, also known as COVID-19, continues to spread across the Sunshine State. The elderly and those with other health conditions are considered to be most at risk when it comes to contracting the coronavirus.

Before being tested, patients will need to make an appointment via televisit with a physician from Premier Medical Associates. He or she will do an initial screening and determine if the patient should actually be tested for COVID-19. If this is the case, an appointment will be made for the patient to go to the medical facility.

Tents were set up Sunday evening at Premier Medical in Santa Barbara in The Villages.

Test results should be available in two to five days. After being tested, patients should self-quarantine at home until they have the results.
