UP: Underage’s medical report confirms sexual assault, police add rape charge to FIR

After a 13-year-old girl’s medical report confirmed a sexual assault, the rape charge was added to the FIR by police here, an official said on Wednesday.

The minor was allegedly raped by her neighbor, who inflicted several injuries on her and tried to strangle her.

Currently, the girl is undergoing treatment in a Delhi hospital.

The incident took place on October 15, when the parents of the rape victim went to work in the field and the girl was playing outside her home.

At around noon, their neighbor, a 45-year-old man, took the girl inside the house and raped her.

Based on a statement from the minor’s family, a case was registered on this matter at Ahmadgarh police station and the accused was arrested.

Chief Police Superintendent Santosh Kumar Singh said the rape charge was added to the FIR on Tuesday after the medical report confirmed a sexual assault.

A proposal has also been prepared to provide financial assistance to the family of the rape victim under the Lakshmibai program.

Delhi Commission for Women chief Swati Maliwal wrote to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday, asking him to order police to add rape sections to the case.

In his letter, Maliwal asserted that “the most shocking aspect of the case” was that despite the brutality of the crime, while the UP police registered an FIR in the case, they did not added rape sections.

It is deeply distressing. As the Commission tries to help the survivor and her family and attend to their immediate medical and legal needs, you are urged to urgently issue orders to UP Police to add the relevant sections of rape to the FIR, take action against negligent officers and provide protection for the girl and her family, ” the letter reads.

Maliwal had urged Adityanath to compensate the minor’s family and ensure that the case is brought to trial in an expedited court.
