PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) – There is a lot of misinformation around the COVID-19 vaccine and masks.
With so much information circulating, even those with the best of intentions can be confused.
Here are some key points: First, vaccines have been designed to dramatically reduce the severity of infection, such as hospitalizations, intensive care admissions, and deaths. They help prevent the spread, but that’s just a bonus.
It is therefore not surprising that people who are vaccinees can contract COVID-19, especially in areas with low vaccination rates and where the virus is growing.
Masks do not eliminate the spread, but they do reduce it. Until people are vaccinated, this is the best way to prevent them from getting very sick.
Think of the world of the unvaccinated as the world we had before vaccines. Masks and social distancing offer the best protection for the unvaccinated.
